Management Consultant and Trainer
Anne works with Melton Day Nursery as a management consultant and childcare trainer. She also delivers Childcare Qualifications for the nursery in partnership with Blue Sky Assessing and Consultancy.
We asked Nicola Cannon, the owner of Melton Day Nursery why they would recommend Anne from Anne Emerson-Smith Training:
Accessible: Anne has always been highly accessible to the students. She prioritises and values regular face to face contact with the students as well as using text and emails to keep in touch on a weekly basis.
Flexible: All students are required to spend time off the floor to study. Anne can work very flexibly with the nursery to ensure that this fits in with the day to day staffing requirements of the nursery which when running a busy business is essential. Anne communicates with us brilliantly to ensure it all works for students and us.
Partnership: Anne works closely with the room managers and always ensures that the theory and principles of the qualification are being closely linked to the practice, induction and day to day procedures of the nursery. Anne also works closely with the managers to ensure that the students are making good progress in their role as early years practitioners
Experienced: Anne has over 40 years of experience and is still actively involved in the early years setting both as a consultant , providing management support and training and as a supply worker. This enables her to keep up to date with best practice in the work place and have up to date to date experience of policies and procedures.
We have worked with other training providers in the past but working with Anne has been so much better as she has tuned her training to our specific nursery needs and approach. She has developed the students but also as a result the whole nursery. She takes a holistic approach so students are confident and capable early on in their training. I would wholly recommend other childcare providers use this approach rather than releasing students a day a week to do generic childcare training.
Anne has carried out a number of tasks for the Nursery including the development of
Staff Supervision Policy and Procedures
An Induction Pack
A staff handbook
A Play Policy
Room Manager support
Anne has delivered a wide range of training workshops including
Providing Provocations and Inspirations
Risk Benefit Assessment
She works in close partnership with the management team in both the planning and delivery of her work to ensure the training is relevant and meaningful. Each session ends with a clear action plan for the teams to implement in the workplace
Anne was a founder member of Play First Scotland with myself and two others. We set up this co op to promote and support workers in turning play theory in to practice. Anne brought to the team 20 + years of experience in social work, training and special needs as well as wide range of knowledge and experience in play. Anne can turn her theoretical and practical knowledge and experience in to fun and engaging training sessions and presentations/keynote speeches geared up to the needs of the participants. Bespoke training is one of her specialities and she will bring a dynamism and understanding of the needs of the participants to any session be it tailored or off the peg.

Myself and my colleague attended an autism awareness course with Anne. It was very informative and enabled us to reflect on our current practice and see how we can improve in ways that we hadn’t thought about. Anne provided an interesting insight which worked well with our existing training.
TOPCATS and Anne have been working together to improve our play space for our Afternoon Club. Anne is flexible, knowledgeable and approachable and has been a great resource for the charity. Anne helped introduce sensory boxes and expand our knowledge on loose part play which in turn helped us in our planning for all of our programmes.

I’ve known and worked with Anne for many years both as a professional advisor to a charity (Playplus, now called PLUS) of which she was the Director and as a colleague working on joint projects between that charity and Stirling Council. After Anne left Playplus to work on a freelance basis, we remained in close contact and Anne developed and delivered substantial playwork and childcare professional development vocational and degree level qualifications for Stirling Council.
Anne has an unusual depth and breadth of experience and theoretical knowledge in the often overlapping fields of childcare, play and disability. She is an accomplished trainer as well as practitioner and has personal qualities of warmth, empathy , humour and total reliability.
Manager of Stirling Council’s Play Services until 2007;
consultant until 2015

Here are some testimonials from the Halesworth Women In Business members:
"Anne attended the Halesworth Women in Business monthly meeting last night and gave an hours talk covering important aspects of running your own business. She covered management skills, staff management, development, recognising opportunities and business support to name a few areas. Her professionalism and business acumen shone through, I'm now booking private meetings with Anne. With my daughter we're expanding our business and feel Anne will be a real asset and much needed mentor. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
